SteepleChase Productions was formed in 1971 by Nils Winther, a young Danish jazz enthusiast who hung out a lot at the Monmartre Cafe in Copenhagen and became friends with many of the American and European musicians who played there.
Since then, Nils has carefully documented some of the important artists and players of the bop, post bop, and new free music eras. Included are saxophonists: Jackie McLean (alto), Dextor Gordon (tenor, soprano), Lee Konitz (alto, soprano), Ari Ambrose (tenor); pianists: Duke Jordan, Paul Bley, Tete Montoliu, Don Friedman, George Colligan, Harold Danko; bassists: Johnny Dyani and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen - and so many others it seems like a slur to mention anyone at all in particular.
