AUM Fidelity (New York, USA)

Based in Brooklyn NYC, AUM Fidelity started making records in late 1997. The principal mission then and now is to record and promote the vanguard group works from some of today's Masters of Jazz. These are among the most gifted artists working in this distinctly African-American idiom of pro-creative improvisation. Passion and adventure in equal measures; deeply human music designed for healing through sound!

AUM is operated single-handedly by Steven Joerg, formerly producer of the David S Ware albums Cryptology & Dao/Tao, and Joe Morris' Elsewhere, on the Homestead imprint (previously released in NZ by Just Jazz Records).

AUM Fidelity is dedicated to presenting the vanguard works by some of the Masters of Music Today. Capitalized because it's True. One need only listen to hear. If you are looking for human-organized sounds to potentially transform you, your search has here yielded a treasure:::

SCREWGUN (New York, U.S.A.)

Screwgun - Tim Berne's label, based in New York, begun in 1996 - is done guerilla-style on a shoestring. The CDs come wrapped in monochrome cardboard covers "deranged by" artist, Steve Styram, and, as if to emphasise the "We're only in it for the food" title of a Bloodcount track, each title comes with a recipe for a South of the Border gourmand's delight. Allegedly, most of the Bloodcount tracks are recorded using a single microphone.

Screwgun releases by year:

1996
SCR 70001 - Tim Berne Bloodcount: Unwound

1997
SCR 70002 - Tim Berne-Paraphrase: Visitation Rites
SCR 70003 - Tim Berne Bloodcount: Discretion
SCR 70004 - Bloodcount - Saturation Point

1998
SCR 70005 - Marc Ducret: un certain malaise
SCR 70006 - Michael Formanek: Am I Bothering You?
SCR 70007 - Django Bates: Quiet Nights
SCR 70009 - Tim Berne: The Empire Box

1999
SCR 70008 - Julius Hemphill: Blue Boyé (2CD)
SCR 70010 - Marc Ducret: L'Ombra di Verdi
SCR 70011 - Tim Berne Paraphrase: Please Advise

Revenant (Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A.)

More accurately known as John Fahey's Revenant, this label is co-owned by John Fahey and Dean Blackwood who acts as the label manager. It is dedicated to producing "RAW" musics and "...alerts new audiences to a hidden history of American music, retrieved from the tiny regional labels scattered across its rural hinterland." - The Wire #174, 8/98 . A very impressive line-up here including the sound-shell experience of Derek Bailey's guitar accompanying Min Tanaka dancing in a Paris thunderstorm; Cecil Taylor's immortal Montmartre concert of 1962, and Jim O'Rourke's apocalyptic Happy Days.

RVN 101 - Jim O'Rourke: Happy Days
RVN 102* - Sir Richard Bishop: Salvador Kali
RVN 201 - Derek Bailey with Min Tanaka: Music And Dance
RVN 202 - Cecil Taylor: Nefertiti, The Beautiful One Has Come
