Hat Hut Records (Therwil, Switzerland)
Started in 1975 as Hat Hut, the name was changed to hat ART with the
advent of the CD (though the original name remains as the 'official' title).
The label specialises in recording new music - jazz, contemporary classical,
and 'uncategorisable' sounds - and has particularly focussed on musicians
such as Anthony Braxton, Steve Lacy, Joe McPhee, Cecil Taylor and composers
such as John Cage, Morton Feldman and Giacinto Scelsi. The total number
of releases is close to 200. In 1995 Hat Hut started to let CDs go out
of print for the first time in its history and towards the end of 1996
began producing all its new releases in limited editions.
Since 1996, the 6000 series has been depleted and then deleted. So many
fine performances and recordings becoming collectors' items rapidly.
