Emanem (London, England)
This small label documented, on around 30 LPs, a number of extremely
important sessions of free jazz and improvised music occurring in Europe
during the early and mid 70s. Many of these releases are considered essential
collectors' items and feature, for example, Steve Lacy, Paul Rutherford,
Spontaneous Music Ensemble and the first duo recording of Anthony Braxton
and Derek Bailey. EMANEM is run by the indefatigable Martin Davidson.
Martin is credited with recording many of those very valuable sessions
released on Incus.
The EMANEM imprint disappeared for several years during the 1980s and
early 1990s. 1995 saw a welcome return for the label, with a flurry of
releases mixing CD re-issues and unreleased material, both old and new.
